A workshop to be held in conjunction with
The International Conference on Web Intelligence, Mining and Semantics (WIMS 2011)
May 25th - 27th 2011, Sogndal, Norway
Advances in RFID, ZigBee, 6LoWPAN, and similar standards are competing to bring the physical world into the Internet. Various alliances like the IPSO (Internet Protocol for Smart Objects) and the FIA (Future Internet Assembly) are promoting the Internet of Things (IoT) as the next advancement of the Internet. The integration of the physical and virtual worlds poses many opportunities as well as challenges. New applications and services, bridging the virtual and physical worlds, have already emerged in various domains like business, healthcare, agriculture and infrastructure.
These new developments however, raise many research questions: Interaction, security, collaboration, context, discovery and privacy of physical things in the virtual world are yet to be fully addressed. This workshop focuses on disseminating novel ideas and research directions in the emerging area of the Internet of Things. This is an opportunity for researchers and technocrats who work towards ubiquitous computing environments to meet and discuss the state of the art. The audience includes academics and industry professionals working on standards and service paradigms for integrating the real-world into the Internet. The Workshop's topic area is of significant interest to the wider IT community and an appealing forum for industry participation.
